FedDev Ontario is delivering more than $11 million to support communities as they create, improve or enhance tourism products, facilities and experiences.
FedDev Ontario Helps Drive Tourism through New Fund
The Canadian Experiences Fund—a $58.5-million two-year program delivered by regional development agencies across the country—was launched to help Canada’s tourism sector innovate and grow. FedDev Ontario will invest in projects supporting tourism activities in rural and remote communities, and related to Indigenous, off-season, culinary and inclusive experiences that maintain Canada’s reputation as a friendly and fun destination. We’re looking for municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and businesses that are engaged in tourism-related activities and will provide support for infrastructure, products and marketing. See the Applicant toolkit for more information.

Bridgit co-founders, Mallorie Brodie and Lauren Lake, launched the company in 2012 and have since been named to the 2019 Forbes Manufacturing and Industry 30 Under 30 list. A $3-million contribution from FedDev Ontario helped bring an established, sustainable plastics recycler to southern Ontario. Enviroplast Inc., which is headquartered in Montreal, is expanding its operations and will incorporate first-in-Canada technology at its new plant in Vaughan. The zero-waste process will allow the innovative company to increase its capacity for recycling different types of plastics. Enviroplast has been in business for 28 years, transforming more than 2,000 metric tons of recyclable materials monthly. The facility will be up and running by spring 2020, creating 30 new jobs in the community.

Strengthening Francophone Communities with Support for Entrepreneurs
A partnered effort will provide Franco-Ontarian entrepreneurs important supports for success. FedDev Ontario is contributing $1.35 million towards Collège La Cité’s (La Cité) new program aimed at women, youth and immigrants. The program will offer personalized coaching at the college’s new centre for Francophone entrepreneurs, La Factorie Desjardins, located at La Cité’s Ottawa campus. Participants will benefit from a number of local partnerships, including one with the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation, providing business services and hands-on guidance to spur innovative ideas. La Cité is the largest French-language college of applied arts and technology in Canada outside of Quebec.

“Made in Simcoe County” Campaign Helps Promote Regional Manufacturing Strengths
Touting the world-class products, services and opportunities offered in Simcoe County, its Economic Development Office is showing potential business partners what success looks like in the region.
