FedDev Ontario now accepting applications for funding

Spring intake now open until June 24, 2024.

FedDev Ontario's spring 2024 application intake is now open. Funding is available for businesses and is focused on the following priority areas: inclusive growth, technology, industrial transition, green initiatives such as zero-emission vehicles, clean growth, and housing manufacturing innovation. Not-for-profit and community economic development organizations can also apply for funding to support businesses, grow economic networks, and strengthen the economic resilience of our communities.

Further information on the types of projects that are eligible to receive funding can be found on FedDev Ontario's website.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada launches EV info page

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the transportation sector's transition to zero-emission vehicle production and building a green economy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) launched a web page dedicated to providing information on the government's plans and goals in developing a made-in-Canada EV and battery ecosystem, including information on how Canadian businesses can get involved.

Celebrating 40 years of bridging the gap

Economic Development Week 2024 is in May, and FedDev Ontario is proud to support organizations that help contribute to their communities. The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) has been a pioneer for bridging the gap between the mainstream corporate sector and Indigenous communities. In May 2024, it will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Read the success story celebrating the CCAB and its support for Indigenous entrepreneurs in Canada.

Community Futures Eastern Ontario wraps up a successful Community Futures Week

Early in March, Community Futures Eastern Ontario held their own Community Futures Week 2024, featuring webinars, live workshops and in-person events across eastern Ontario. Highlights included innovative panel discussions featuring notable guest speakers (including FedDev Ontario Minister Filomena Tassi), demonstrations by cutting-edge companies, and celebrations of successes by local entrepreneurs and businesses.

Two FedDev Ontario funding recipients partner on sustainable coffee cup solution

Guelph-based Omnia Packaging, a leader in Canadian-made sustainable packaging, announced a partnership with Friendlier, a reusable container manufacturer, to produce a new, 16-ounce reusable coffee cup. The partnership represents a joint goal to reduce plastic and single-use waste. Both companies have received Government of Canada support for their innovative green initiatives, delivered through FedDev Ontario.

Minister Tassi and Minister Ien highlight investments to support young entrepreneurs

Government of Canada provides a plan to support Fairness for Every Generation

The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth of Canada, met with young entrepreneurs at Innovation Factory in Hamilton to hear their stories about accessing government funding, and learn more about the important work being done by young talent in the community and across a variety of sectors. The Ministers also took the opportunity to highlight Budget 2024's investments in youth entrepreneurs.

Government of Canada supports Holocaust education in Hamilton

Hamilton Jewish Federation receives $175,000 to renovate its current space and enhance offerings. This project was supported under the Tourism Growth Program, where Regional Development Agencies, such as FedDev Ontario, are helping businesses and organizations to diversify regional economies by investing in tourism products and experiences that will encourage visitation to and within Canada.

Budget 2024: Fairness for Every Generation

In April, the Government of Canada released Budget 2024: Fairness for Every Generation, a plan to build a Canada where younger generations can get ahead, where their hard work pays off, and everyone has a fair chance at a good middle class life. Canada's regional development agencies, including FedDev Ontario, will be instrumental in delivering key investments to support housing manufacturing solutions and to boost innovations such as electric vehicles and AI that support economic growth.
