Bridgit builds simplicity into construction project management platform

Next time you pass through the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), count the number of cranes in the sky. The region currently has more than any other city in North America. Beyond Toronto, the construction boom is widespread across southern Ontario. With construction companies taking strides to become more efficient and leverage digital tools, incorporating modern technologies into construction tech is on the rise.

In 2014, opportunity knocked for two university students enrolled in an entrepreneurship program at Western University. Having both grown up in the construction industry, Mallorie Brodie and Lauren Lake identified an opportunity to modernize processes and incorporate mobile-first solutions into the construction business. They pooled their experience, training and fresh new ideas into a construction tech start-up, and Bridgit was born.

Now in its fifth year of operation, Bridgit has built on the success of its inaugural digital platform, Bridgit Field, which improves the issue tracking and inspection management process for general contractors and developers. Its recently launched second platform, Bridgit Bench, is a workforce intelligence tool that allows construction companies to better utilize their most important resource—their teams. Bridgit Bench allows companies to optimize their ability to place the right crew on the job and ensure a high utilization rate of their team, reducing overhead cost.

In 2019, FedDev Ontario funding supported Bridgit to launch new products. The company immediately put the $750,000 FedDev Ontario contribution into action, building new pieces of its product line more quickly than it could have otherwise.

Bridgit is proud to be the first company to work on a workforce intelligence tool targeted at professionals in the construction space, digitizing the resource planning process so that large-scale general contractors can move away from traditional spreadsheet planning. Rooted in Kitchener-Waterloo, and now with a satellite office in downtown Toronto focused on the Bridgit Bench platform, Bridgit has vast opportunities to work closely with leaders in the construction industry. Bridgit prides itself on staying agile and finding gaps in existing construction management systems, further allowing their products to be complementary to the existing products in the market.

Bridgit’s two female founders, Brodie and Lake, were recently named on the 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 Innovators list. The vision of two like-minded undergraduate students has transformed into a construction tech company, made up of a team of more than 50 employees, thriving in the Kitchener-Waterloo ecosystem and commercializing breakthrough products and innovations.
